Simplest Gorilla family to trek

Gorilla trekking In Uganda – Affordable Gorilla trekking – Gorilla tracking tours, Gorilla trekking sectors, Gorilla permit-USD600

What is the Simplest Gorilla family to trek in Uganda and Rwanda. Different Tourists, who come to Uganda for Gorilla trekking always ask which “Gorilla family is easy to trek?” Since the Gorilla permit prices were increased in Rwanda from USD750 to USD1500.00 and Uganda considering increasing its price sometime next year, some tourists want to enjoy their experience of Gorilla trekking by paying now and trying to look for the easiest Gorilla family to trek.

Easiest Gorilla family to trek versus Gorilla family allocation

The issue of the easiest Gorilla family to trek has been sorted by the Uganda Wildlife Authority. According to the new developments, the Gorilla family’s allocation is now based on the interests, age, and physical abilities of individuals.

Some clients have been misled to think that in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, some Gorilla groups are hard to find while others are easier. Sometimes there are chances when a tourist goes for a trek and within 15-30 minutes, they are with the Gorillas while others will spend three-quarters of the day in the forest looking out for these creatures and by the time they find them, they are already exhausted. When they go back, they post different feedback messages on their Facebook pages or trip advisor telling people not to track this or that group of Gorillas. The truth of the fact is that Uganda has a variety of wildlife Gorillas are wild animals and you will never tell their movements all the time. Their movements depend on several factors’ food and water availability fear, and also, especially when they fight with another group and they have to move away from that location. A mountain gorilla family that was nearer yesterday might be far away the next day so the Gorilla family is easier to trek depending on the day’s experience.

Rushegura Gorilla Family commonly known as R-Group has been accepted as an easier group because the starting point is in Buhoma just at the National Park offices and its territory is in the same sector. In most cases, tourists have indeed had to trek it easier than other Gorilla groups but, in some seasons, this group can move deep in the forest and becomes as hard as any other group. Therefore, there is no guarantee that you will have an easier trek.

Other clients book Gorilla permits in different sectors and book accommodation in another sector. This then requires them to start very early to drive so that they reach the starting point of trekking in time. In other words, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park has four sectors, which are, Buhoma in the northern, Rushaga and Nkuringo both in the southern and Ruhija in the eastern.

Katland safaris ltd always advises our clients that when they book Gorilla permits for Gorilla families in Ruhija, please do book accommodation in the same sector. This will reduce the drive time so that you don’t have to drive very early to reach the starting point.

The other question is why did my tour operator book me a hard Gorilla family to trek? It all comes back to some of the factors mentioned above but kindly note that Gorilla permits are sold on a first come first serve basis and if by the time of booking your Gorilla permit, there was no alternative but to book you a group which was told to you that it was hard, then know that was the choice. To avoid this, make sure you acquire your Gorilla permit way in advance-5 months in advance to enable you to make a choice.

In conclusion, Gorilla Tracking in Uganda can sometimes be strenuous and a certain level of fitness is always required. If you have this level of fitness and your prime goal is to trek the Mountain Gorillas, then the above complaints should not arise.

However, we at all times advise all visitors to at this point consult with a tours and travel company like Katland Safaris. This makes it easier in booking gorilla permits and putting all your gorilla trekking logistics in order.

Gorilla habitation in a group. Gorilla trekking – Uganda – Rwanda – Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.

Gorilla habitation adventure in a group- Gorilla habituation is the process through which a gorilla family gets used to human visits. When there were plans to introduce gorilla tourism in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, the remaining task was to ensure that the mountain gorillas get used to tourists’ visits. Remember, the gorillas were living in the forest and were not used to human visits.

A gorilla habituation process takes 2-3 years, and it involves an advanced team from the Uganda Wildlife Authority making frequent visits to the gorilla family. Upon establishing that the group is used and welcoming to tourists, the gorilla family becomes ready for tourists’ visits.

The Gorilla Habituation adventure Experience

Introduced in 2015 and available for a minimal duration of only 2-3 years is the gorilla habituation experience in Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. To become habituated to tourists’ presence, each gorilla group has undergone an extremely delicate process, lasting around five years, gradually getting accustomed to the presence of humans. Park rangers start by spending a short period with the gorillas every day, at a certain distance that represents the limit of the gorillas’ comfort zone. As the years go by, they gradually increase the time and reduce the distance until they deem the gorillas ready for paying clients to visit them.

The gorilla habituation experience for the first time allows paying clients to participate in this process. It is limited to two gorilla families in the southern part of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Bukingyi and Bushaho, in the park’s Rushaga sector. Due to the steep terrain, and dense vegetation. How many people are allowed to habituate a gorilla family per day?

For the gorilla habituation experience, only 4 people are allowed to habituate a gorilla family per day for 1500 dollars per person per habituation. And once the mountain gorillas are found a person is given not more than 4 hours to spend with mountain gorilla observing their ways of life, taking videos and pictures to share with loved ones back home.

Gorilla habituation adventure is currently done in Uganda and Bwindi impenetrable national game park in the Rushaga sector in the southwestern part of the park and buhoma sector.

The gorilla habituation experience helps clients come so close to these amazing gentle giants and as well participate in the habituation process. it involves encouraging wild gorillas to feel comfortable in the presence of humans.

Why four people for the gorilla habituation experience.?

It’s first intended to minimize and reduce behavioral disturbances in mountain gorillas. A large cloud of new people every day might in one way or the other cause discomfort to the gorillas a thing that is completely against conservation protocols.

To minimize the risk of exposing gorillas to human diseases. Gorillas and humans share a 98.5%dna with humans. This means they are highly suspect able to some human diseases yet their Immunity is not strong enough to resist these diseases. Exposing gorillas to a single human disease like the flu puts an entire family of these gentle giants at a very high risk and this can devastate the whole population. The Ages for Family members going for Gorilla Trekking

Doing all activities on an Africa safari as a family is nice but with gorilla trekking in Uganda and Rwanda, there is a cap to the age limit which is 15 years and above. This is because of the nature of the topography of Bwindi Forest or Volcanoes Park which needs some hiking to get to the gorillas. At times it may be strenuous locating the mountain gorillas.  Children below this year may find it tiring to move on at some point. This delays the rest of the group yet the forest is huge returning after you have moved a distance is demanding as well. At times these children are affected by altitude which is about 2600m above sea level. This may not work well on children below this age.

Activities that can be done with children below 15 while parents are in for the gorillas.

The park has some activities which may involve children like the village walk, and visiting the Batwa and even some lodges have children’s activities but these are upon request.

Immunization before gorilla Trekking in Africa. (Gorilla trekking with family)

After the Covid-19 pandemic, immunization for Corona per country became relevant. Initially, one of the rules of gorilla trekking included being communicable disease-free, and now more action on disease control is being followed. To be allowed to do gorilla trekking, you must present covid-19 immunization certificate or negative test Corona Virus results at least 72 hours before traveling to see the mountain gorillas. This may seem so stressful but mountain gorilla conservation has taken so many years from the time only about 500 gorillas were existing in the world to currently about 800 mountain gorillas. This conservation achievement can go down the gutters by only one mistake of allowing a communicable disease-infected person to trek the gorillas.

Immunizing for other diseases like yellow fever, malaria, and others as recommended by the travel guidelines is important for your gorilla trekking safari preparations.
