Mweya peninsula,

This is the central sector, it is situated in the heart of the park, stretching between Lake Edward and the Kazinga Channel. Mweya Peninsula is where the headquarters of the park are found; it’s the starting point of Kazinga channel boat cruises, it also has Mweya safari lodge and budget accommodations, and excellent game drives.

Mweya Peninsula is often the most visited part of the park because it’s easily accessible and offers sweeping views of the channel and surrounding savannah.

Kasenyi plains – North East of the park

The Kasenyi Plain is located in the east of the Mbarara – Kasese road, near Lake Gorge. The key attractions include the best pace for game drives, a prime area for seeing lions and Uganda Kobs, large breeding grounds for antelopes, and excellent photography opportunities during sunrise. Kasenyi is usually marked clearly on park maps because it is famous for predator sightings.

The ishasha sector south of the park

At the far southern end of Queen Elizabeth National Park, bordering Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The unique features of the Ishasha sector include: home of the famous tree-climbing lions, vast open savannah, popular route for tourists heading to trek gorillas in Bwindi. On most maps, the Ishasha sector is drawn as a separate region due to its distance from the central part of the park.

Kazinga channel

It cuts across the middle of the park, connecting the two lakes. The unique features of the Kazinga channel are considered the park’s main wildlife hotspot, the largest population of hippos in Africa, huge numbers of crocodiles buffaloes, elephants, and birds, boat launch at Mweya. The channel is one of the most prominent features on park maps.

Kyambura Gorge

To the southwestern end of the park, near the boundary with the Kyambura wildlife reserve. Attractions at Kyambura Gorge include the valley of apes, known as” home to a small habituated chimpanzee community, which offers guided primate trekking and nature walks. Kyambura is often shown as a winding green trench cutting through the savannah

Maramagambo Forest

It covers the southeastern section of the park near Lake Kyasanduka and Lake Nyamasingiri. What it’s known for covers forest walks, blue monkeys, forest birds, butterflies, and crater lakes. This forest is usually marked as a dark green block on park maps.

Crater Lakes region,

It’s between the Kasese road and the northern escarpment, stretching toward the Rwenzori mountains. The main features include dozens of scenic volcanic craters, beautiful viewpoints, excellent photography spots, and good for nature drives. This area is often illustrated with circular lake patterns on the map.

Lake Edward forms the western boundary of the park, bordering Dr. Congo. Its main features include. The second largest lake entirely in Uganda, habitat for fish, hippos, water birds, and overlooks the Rwenzori and Virunga ranges.

Lake George in the northeastern sector is fed by rivers from the Rwenzori mountains. Why it matters: shallow nutrient – rich lake support fishing communities, important birding zone.

Katwe salt lake, near Mweya on the western edge of the park. Highlights: traditional salt mining, cultural tours, and unique historical attractions.
