New gorilla families in Bwindi, Christmas and Katwe groups
This is a great time to announce the arrival of three new gorilla families to Impenetrable National Park: the Bwindi, Christmas, and Katwe groups. We at Katland Safaris take great pleasure in keeping our audience up-to-date with the latest facts on mountain gorilla trekking in Rwanda and Uganda via extensive and comprehensive research.
The Christmas gorilla family in the Mkuringo area and the Katwe gorilla family in the Buhoma region are two of the newest gorilla families in Bwindi. The addition of two more gorilla families to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park—Christmas and Katwe—raises the overall number of gorilla families to seventeen, making Bwindi the park with the largest concentration of habituated mountain gorilla families globally.
The number of gorilla groups in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park has grown from 15 to 17, thanks to the entrance of new gorilla families. As a result, 136 gorilla permits are available for reservation and booking for gorilla trekking activities.
Katland Safaris will arrange for your gorilla permit at no additional expense if you book any of our gorilla tours. Our three-day gorilla excursion departs from either Entebbe or b. Additionally, we offer a 5-day gorilla and chimpanzee safari as well as a 5-day gorilla and game safari.
An update on the status of the Bwindi-Christmas and Katwe gorilla families
New gorilla families in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park have been habituated and are now available for trekking or tourist visits, according to the Uganda Wildlife Authority. The Nkuringo and Buhoma districts have just welcomed new gorilla families, according to an official statement from the Uganda Wildlife Authority.
This information was sent to all tour companies. The Nkuringo area in southern Bwindi is now officially available to visitors in search of the Christmas gorilla troop. There are now three gorilla populations in Nkuringo, thanks to the Christmas gorilla family.
Nkuringo is home to three distinct gorilla groups: the original Nkuringo group, the Bushawo group, and the Christmas group. Now that there are three different gorilla groups in the area, tour companies and visitors may reserve up to 24 gorilla permits daily, up from 8 when there was only the Nkuringo group.
A family of Christmas gorillas in Nkuringo
This new gorilla troop in Nkuringo is called the Christmas gorilla family, and its dominant silverback leader is named Christmas. The Uganda Wildlife Authority reports that there are nine members of the Christmas gorilla family, with six of them being visible to the public due to their adoration of humans.
The sightings include one adult male, three juvenile females, and a single youngster. Additional information on the Christmas gorilla group will be revealed during future Katland safaris.
Kutwe gorilla group welcomes new family to Buhoma
Buhoma is home to the Katwe gorilla troop, another newly-introduced and trek-friendly gorilla family. Located in the park’s northern section, the Buhoma area is home to three more gorilla families. Along with the Katwe gorilla group, three other gorilla families—the Mubare, the Rushegura, and Habinyanja—were habituated and made themselves available for visitors in 1993. Consequently, the number of gorilla permits bought and reserved every day has grown from 24 to 32 permits, thanks to the new gorilla family known as the Katwe gorilla group.
Family of Katwe gorillas in Buhoma
The Katwe gorilla family consists of one silverback, two juveniles, and four adult females, and it is found in the Buhoma area in northern Bwindi. More information on the Katwe gorilla group will be available later on in your Katland tour.
Booking gorilla permits in Nkuringo and Buhoma is the way to go for those interested in trekking new gorilla groups in Bwindi. This necessitates making reservations for gorilla families in both the southern and northern regions of Bwindi.
After that, ask authorities from the Uganda Wildlife Authority if you may hike the Christmas gorilla family in Nkuringo or the Katwe gorilla group in Buhoma on the day of your journey. This is because, on the day of the journey, the gorilla families are assigned based on the interests and physical fitness levels of the tourists. Each tourist gets to request a gorilla family.
