Bird watching
The forest is home to more than 350 kinds of birds, making bird viewing one of the must-do activities in Bwindi. We will devote the whole day to birdwatching in Mubwindi marsh, the ideal spot for birding in Bwindi forest. The most ideal spot to see some of the most elusive rift endemics—such as the stunning Regal Sunbird, the rare and endangered Archer’s Robin-Chat—is along the 4-kilometer walk leading to Mubwindi Swamp.

African Hill Babbler (often considered a distinct species from Ruwenzori Hill Babbler), the uncommon and localized Grauer’s Scrub-Warbler, Stripe-breasted Tit, Ruwenzori Apalis, and countless more may be found at Mubwindi Swamp. As a result of Mahogany Springs’ proximity to the forest, guests are certain to observe a wide variety of birds throughout the day, and some even make an appearance in the lodge’s gardens.

Hikes in the great outdoors
An additional day may be reserved for a breathtaking hike in the forest, where you can discover waterfalls and other natural wonders. The Uganda Wildlife Authority has set up nature walk pathways in the Buhoma sector and Bwindi Forest so that tourists may go on guided hikes.

Depending on the visitor’s schedule, guided walks may begin at any time; participants will have the opportunity to see a variety of tree types, bird species native to the forest, and even traverse streams and marshes. An exciting adventure awaits you as you follow your guide down a variety of paths.

Life in the community and the Batwa way of life
During your leisure time at Mahogany Springs Lodge, you may arrange for this wonderful meeting. As a precaution to protect the apes and monkeys that are in risk of extinction, the Batwa Pygmies were forced to leave their homes in Bwindi Forest. While learning about the Batwa people’s traditional forest lifestyle, you’ll get a taste of their distinctive cuisine, dancing, and way of life during the cultural encounter.

The Batwa people will take you on a journey into the forest where they do many of their traditional activities, including hunting, picking fruit, collecting honey, and conducting ceremonies. By paying a charge, visitors to these Batwa routes may show their appreciation for the culture while also helping the local people. The community really appreciates donations made to children’s organizations and women’s clubs, as well as purchases of mementos.
