There are two popular local networks in the country and they are mobile telecommunication networks i.e. MTN and Airtel. If you want to make use of data services and you come with a portable phone with you, insert a local sim card from either MTN or Airtel which costs almost nothing. Airtime can be accessed from almost every corner of the country by local network agents and both calls and data bundles are cheap.

With your mobile phone, an inserted local sim card, and a connection to mobile internet or Wi-Fi, you can access all your social media accounts including Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Snapchat, and What’s Up and you can receive and send messages or e-mails in real-time.

Various internet cafes can be accessed in the country mostly in most large cities and towns. Many hotels and restaurants across the country provide free Wi-Fi to their clients but because it’s used by many, it sometimes tends to be very slow.

Uganda has a very good local and international press with only two commonly used languages and that’s English and Luganda. The daily release of daily monitor and new vision gives detailed coverage of both local and international headlines keeping every traveller in the know of what is taking place across the world.

There are other newspapers including The Observer released once a week, the East African is also a weakly release with excellent regional coverage.
