Living Conditions for Chimpanzees in the Budongo Forest Reserve

The Waibira Chimpanzee Survival Project

In 2011, all of the Waibira chimpanzees in Budongo forest were habituated. There are about a hundred people involved in the group. A small group of people broke away from the Sonso and established this new society, which quickly grew in size and influence.

About 30 males and many more females make up a chimpanzee group. It is common for some women to leave the areas to which they were born and settle in others. Trekking to view the chimpanzees is an amazing experience, and it will be much better if you happen to see other members of the colony.

Chimpanzee Community of Kaniyo and Pabidi
