Lake Mburo Boat Cruise
From Kampala, the capital of Uganda, Lake Mburo National Park is the nearest and most accessible safari location of all those available. One of the pleasures of visiting this little savannah site is a lake Mburo boat tour.
Conveniently situated 230 km from Kampala, in southwest Uganda, Lake Mburo National Park offers a great buffer for the lengthy 10-hour trip to the mountain gorillas in the far southwestern portion. Before starting the lengthy trip down south, Safari itineraries advise stopping in Mburo for a night, then enjoy a game drive and boat ride.
Given its relative obscurity and size, the little park offers amazing game watching opportunities. Among the three sites in Uganda where Bachelle’s zebra occurs, this is the only one where one may see the exquisite impalas.
Unlike other safari parks in Uganda, Lake Mburo National Park lacks wildlife heavyweights like elephants and lions, so Mburo is the only one where one may see animals on foot and horseback. In the middle of the untamed savannah players, this exciting adventure sets your adrenaline running.
Although a cluster of lakes linked by marshes surrounds Lake Mburo National Park, Lake Mburo is the biggest of the five lakes located inside the park limits from which the park gets its name. When you go to the coast for a regular drink, a boat tour on Lake Mburo will allow you to go near the major and minor actors of the park.

On the boat excursion, there have been notable sightings of Nile crocodiles, African buffalo, and the lazy hippo pods. Far from the coast away from the reptilian predators, visitors may see species such the Bohor reedbuck, duiker, klipspringer, oribi, and topi.
Not disappointed will be birders marking well-known waterbird sightings like the African fish eagle, jacana, kingfisher, cormorant, pelican, and herons. Other often reported sightings include Narina trogon, Ross’s turaco, African green-pigeon, the bare-faced go-away-bird, and the very uncommon shoebill stork living in the marshy regions. The boat journey reaches the easily accessible papyrus sections, where you will find the blue-headed coucal and the inhabitant, Papyrus gonolek.
