Collecting gorilla permits from UWA
Finally, and perhaps most importantly, you must get your gorilla permits at the headquarters of the Uganda Wildlife Authority. Get your gorilla permits in advance of your trekking date if you want to view mountain gorillas in Uganda, particularly in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and mgahinga. In Bwindi Impenetrable National Park or Mgahinga National Park, these are the permissions that will be provided.
How to get a gorilla permit in Uganda and how to schedule one
Your gorilla permit cannot be collected at the Uganda Wildlife Authority’s headquarters in Kampala until you have completed the booking procedure. The first step in obtaining a permit to hike mountain gorillas in Uganda is to make contact with the Uganda Wildlife Authority. You can get help with this via the UWA reservations department, or you may reach out to Katland Safaris.
One of our safari experts will verify the availability of gorilla permits for Bwindi Impenetrable National Park or Mgahinga National Park on the UWA system or by phoning the reservations office at UWA when you contact Katland Safaris. After the availability is confirmed, the designated safari designer will inform you and give you an invoice to pay for the gorilla permits.
There are two ways that customers may pay at Katland Safaris. There are two options for payment: either provide us evidence of payment after wiring the money to our bank account, or use a credit card, which is immediate but adds 5% to the total. All all, we have to wait about two or three business days for the funds to show up in our bank account.
We will withdraw the funds and cover the cost of your gorilla permits as soon as they arrive in our bank account. We will get a receipt from UWA at this stage, which verifies that we have paid for your gorilla permit. Then, for your reference and record-keeping, we will email you digital versions of these receipts.
Arranging for UWA to provide gorilla permits
One or two weeks before to the scheduled trekking date, the Uganda Wildlife Authority prints up the gorilla permission cards. Katland Safaris will arrange for someone to pick up your gorilla permit from UWA if you book your safari with us. Now that you have all of your receipts, they will take them to the reservations office. There, they will utilize your identification number and the receipts to print your gorilla permit.
We will keep your gorilla permits, together with any other documents you may have received from the Uganda Wildlife Authority, in a secure location at our office until your safari begins. In addition to the receipts that were previously issued, we may also send you scanned images of your cards after we have collected the gorilla permits from UWA. Until your safari arrives, we will hold on to the originals.
Accurately documenting all of our gorilla permits
There must be proper filing and organization of all data relating to gorilla permits as Katland Safaris bookings and maintains them for hundreds of customers. In addition to a fully operational database, we also have physical and soft copies of these gorilla permits. Whenever necessary, this makes tracking down invoices or gorilla permission cards a breeze. We can always check our records to locate your gorilla permit card or receipt, even if you lose them.
Before your gorilla tour begins, your designated guide will pick up your gorilla permission cards from our office and hold them until it’s time to give them to the warden or person in charge at the forest. Please ask your guide to show you the original gorilla permission cards if you would want to see them.
Our guides will get your gorilla permits from UWA and have them forwarded to the hotels where your safari begins and ends in Kigali, Rwanda. So that there is no problem later on, this is done beforehand.
