Volcanoes National Park.| Short trips in Rwanda

Short trips in Rwanda: UNESCO-listed Volcanoes National Park is one of three places to see mountain gorillas. Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda’s leading safari attraction, has 10 habituated gorilla families for trekking. Her burial is in the national park, where Dian Fossey did much of her gorilla conservation studies.

Volcanoes’ major attraction is mountain gorillas, which need permission to view. The Rwanda Development Board or local travel companies sell gorilla permits for $1500 per person.

Besides gorilla trekking, Volcanoes offers bird viewing, primate walks, golden monkey trekking, the Kwita Izina ritual, and visits to local settlements. Volcanoes National Park is ideal for a quick vacation before or after a conference to see primates.

Akagera National Park, situated on the border of Rwanda and Tanzania, is the biggest park in Savannah Park in Rwanda. After the 1994 Genocide, refugees returning to the nation invaded the park, forcing many animal species to escape to adjacent parks and locals to hunt others.

Short trips in Rwanda: A few years later, the government restored Akagera by adding lions in 2015 and black rhinos in 2017 to the already existing antelopes, crocodiles in the Akagera River, buffalos, elephants, spotted hyenas, leopards, and bushbucks to boost tourism.

Over 500 bird species have been documented in Akagera National Park, including vervet, red-tailed, baboon, and black and white colobus monkeys. Akagera offers bird viewing, guided nature walks, game drives, sport fishing, community visits, and boat excursions.

Consider a brief excursion to Lake Kivu before or after a conference. Gisenyi, Cyangugu, Amahoro, and Kibuye Islands on the Rwandan side of Lake Kivu are worth visiting. The Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda share it as a boundary. Lake Kivu, Rwanda’s biggest lake, is located in the Albertine Rift Valley (Great Western Rift Valley) and ranks 6th in Africa. The Democratic Republic of Congo owns 58% of the Lake, which Rwanda shares.

Lake Kivu’s shoreline hamlet of Rusizi is worth seeing. The south side of the Kigali-Rusizi route offers stunning views of the Lake’s undulating hills and greenery. One of the major settlements on Lake Kivu is Rubavu, commonly known as Gisenyi. The town has ancient, rustic homes since Ugandan colonial overlords used it as a beach. Rubavu is an excellent stop after gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park. Karonji village on Lake Kivu is known for its beaches and vistas.

The Genocide Memorial locations in Rwanda commemorate the 1994 Genocide, which resulted in thousands of deaths and refugees from surrounding countries. Rwanda has recovered from the Genocide, but there are memorial sites around the nation that teach about its past. Visit these sights during your brief Rwanda visit before or after a conference:

Rwanda’s capital, Kigali, has the Genocide Memorial Centre. A mass grave with an undefined number of deaths, names of Genocide victims on the wall, and skeletal skulls of some of the children who died are there.

Nyamata memorial site: Over 3000 war refugees were slaughtered in this old church in Bugerera. Some evidence of their murders remains in the church.

Gisozi Memorial site: Hutus and Tutsis were buried there in 3000. A cemetery, exhibit house, picture gallery, and Genocide and Rwanda library are on site. Over 300,000 were buried at Gisozi.

Ntarama Memorial site: Over 5,000 refugees were slaughtered in this chapel. It is an hour from Kigali and commemorates the war dead.

Bisesero Memorial location, today known as the Hill of Resistance in Karongi town, was where people fought hard against the Genocide with limited weapons. This place saw almost 30,000 combat deaths.

Murambi Genocide Memorial: Nearly 2800 people were killed at this school. It is presently an exhibition location after renovation.

Nyungwe Forest National Park is a conserved rainforest with several primate species. Chimpanzees, baboons, colobus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, Mangabeys, and over 300 bird species live there. Nyungwe’s primary attraction is chimpanzee trekking with the Cyamudongo and Uwinka families.

A short safari to the national park allows you plenty of time to explore on foot while enjoying guided nature walks, chimpanzee habituation, bird viewing, and the 91-meter canopy walk 50 meters above the trees.

The Rwanda National Museum is situated in Huye district in the southern region. The greatest museum in East Africa, founded in 1987, has historically classified goods, archeological relics, and seven categories. The museum’s relics highlight Rwanda’s rich culture, and a skilled guide explains them, as well as the culture and politics. A museum visit is the simplest method to learn about Rwandan culture.

If you have limited time before or after the conference, consider visiting Kigali, the capital city of Rwanda, which the UN has deemed the most beautiful city in Africa. The Statehouse Museum, Museum of National History, Handt House Museum, and Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre are among the attractions of Kigali. A quick tour of Kigali shows how inhabitants live and enjoy nightlife. You may also visit traditional milk businesses and join Kigali’s monthly cleanup on the final Saturday.

The Virunga region’s Musanze Caves, situated in the Musanze area, are significant to Rwanda’s history. After volcanic eruptions over a million years ago, more than 32 caverns were formed at the foot of Volcanoes National Park. The 2-kilometer caverns are covered with greenery and are home to hundreds of bats. The subterranean journey takes roughly two hours to exit the other side.

City Tour: Kampala Kampala City has several activities, which we will describe below. However, Kampala is not for everyone. Always crowded, so watch your property. Take short journeys to these Kampala destinations before or after your conference.

Even if you’ve visited many local markets, Owino Market is one of the most chaotic, with bags, clothing, food, veggies, medication, gadgets, kitchenware, and herbs. Owino market contains everything and attracts over 20,000 people every day.

The Gadaffi mosque, also known as Kampala Central Mosque, is one of Kampala’s top attractions due to its stunning design. Muammar Gaddafi finished Idi Amin Dada’s mosque, thus the name. The biggest mosque in East Africa requires shoe removal upon entry.
