An exploration of Batwa culture and history via Mgahinga National Park
The Pygmies, also known as the Batwa, used to live in what is now Uganda’s Mgahinga National Park. Following mgahinga’s designation as a national park, these little critters were forcibly removed from the jungle. After that, the Batwa found a home and resumed their regular lives away from the park.
The Batwa cultural experience takes visitors on a trip through the park’s history, illuminating the pygmies’ daily lives and the activities they engaged in. Walking tours are planned and led by the Batwa who are still alive.
They will dance for you at the conclusion of the tour after showing you their former dwelling place (Garamba cave) and the ways they subsisted from the park’s resources. Safaris with Katland may provide once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to see Batwa culture, golden monkeys, and gorilla trekking.
Exploring the Mgahinga National Park volcanoes
Mgahinga, Sabinyo, and Muhavura are three majestic volcanoes that grace Mgahinga National Park. The virunga ranges, a collection of several volcanic mountains, are comprised of these three. Uganda, Rwanda, and the Congo all share the virunga mountains.
