Your safari begins with arrival in Entebbe or Kampala, followed by a scenic road transfer to Kibale Forest National Park in western Uganda. The drive takes you through lush countryside, tea plantations, and crater lake regions, offering a rewarding introduction to Uganda’s landscapes. Upon arrival near Kibale Forest, you check in at your lodge and enjoy a relaxed evening surrounded by forest tranquility as you prepare for the chimpanzee trekking experience.
Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking in Kibale Forest
Day two is dedicated to chimpanzee tracking in Kibale Forest National Park, which hosts one of the highest populations of chimpanzees in Africa. After an early breakfast, you attend a briefing by park rangers before entering the forest. The trek involves following chimpanzee calls and movements through dense vegetation as you observe them feeding, playing, and interacting high in the canopy. The experience is energetic and engaging, with opportunities to see other primates, birds, and unique forest flora. After the trek, you return to the lodge for rest and overnight.
Day 3: Transfer from Kibale Forest to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
After breakfast, you depart Kibale Forest and travel south toward Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The journey passes through scenic countryside, rolling hills, and traditional villages, gradually transitioning into the misty highlands of southwestern Uganda. As you approach Bwindi, the landscape becomes more rugged and forested, signaling your arrival in one of Africa’s most biodiverse rainforests. You check in at your lodge near the forest edge and receive a briefing about the upcoming gorilla trek.
Day 4: Mountain Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
The highlight of the safari takes place on day four with mountain gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. After an early breakfast, you proceed to the park headquarters for registration and a detailed briefing by Uganda Wildlife Authority guides. You then trek through dense rainforest terrain in search of a habituated gorilla family. Trek durations vary depending on the gorillas’ location, but the reward is extraordinary. Spending one hour in the presence of mountain gorillas as they feed, rest, and interact is a profound and unforgettable wildlife experience. After the trek, you return to your lodge for relaxation and overnight.
Day 5: Forest Walk or Community Experience in Bwindi
Day five offers a more relaxed exploration of the Bwindi region. After breakfast, you may enjoy a guided forest walk that introduces you to Bwindi’s remarkable biodiversity, including birds, butterflies, and smaller primates. Alternatively, a community visit allows you to engage with local people and learn about conservation initiatives surrounding the park. This day provides time to reflect on the gorilla trekking experience while enjoying the serene forest environment.
