Detailed Itinerary: 7 Days Uganda Big Five and Primates Safari

Day 1: Arrival in Entebbe and Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park

Your Uganda Big Five and primates safari begins with arrival and a scenic journey north-west to Murchison Falls National Park. After meeting your professional safari guide, you depart Entebbe and travel through Uganda’s countryside, passing local towns, farmlands, and forested landscapes. The drive offers an introduction to the country’s cultural and geographic diversity.

Upon arrival in Murchison Falls National Park, you settle into your lodge overlooking the Nile or savannah plains, where wildlife is often visible even from the comfort of the lodge.

Day 2: Game Drive and Nile Boat Safari in Murchison Falls National Park

This day introduces you to Uganda’s Big Five safari experience. An early morning game drive across the northern sector of the park reveals elephants, buffalo, giraffes, antelope species, and predators such as lions and leopards. The open plains provide excellent visibility and photographic opportunities.

In the afternoon, you enjoy a boat safari along the Nile to the base of the powerful Murchison Falls. Along the riverbanks, hippos, crocodiles, elephants, and abundant birdlife gather, creating one of Uganda’s most scenic wildlife experiences.

Day 3: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park

The journey continues south toward the primate-rich forests of western Uganda. This transfer day is filled with changing scenery as you pass through grasslands, tea plantations, and crater lake regions. The drive provides a relaxing transition from savannah ecosystems to tropical rainforest.

Arrival in the Kibale region places you near one of Africa’s most important primate habitats, setting the stage for chimpanzee tracking.

Day 4: Chimpanzee Tracking in Kibale Forest National Park and Transfer to Queen Elizabeth

Chimpanzee tracking in Kibale Forest National Park delivers your first close primate encounter. After a morning briefing, you enter the forest with expert guides, following vocalizations and movement through the canopy. Observing chimpanzees in their natural environment offers insight into their social behavior and intelligence.

After the trek, you transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park, descending from forested hills into open savannah landscapes. The evening is spent at a lodge within or near the park, surrounded by wildlife-rich plains.

Day 5: Big Five Game Drive and Kazinga Channel Boat Cruise

Queen Elizabeth National Park offers one of Uganda’s best opportunities to complete the Big Five experience. A morning game drive across the Kasenyi Plains presents chances to see elephants, buffalo, lions, leopards, and a wide variety of antelope species.

In the afternoon, the Kazinga Channel boat cruise provides a relaxed yet immersive wildlife encounter. Hippos dominate the water, crocodiles bask along the banks, and elephants frequently approach the channel to drink, while birdlife thrives throughout the wetlands.

Day 6: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

The safari transitions from savannah to rainforest as you travel to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The drive passes through the Ishasha sector, famous for its tree-climbing lions, before climbing into the mist-covered hills of Bwindi.

Arrival at your lodge near the park allows time to rest and prepare for the most anticipated experience of the safari, mountain gorilla trekking.

Day 7: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi and Departure

Gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is the defining highlight of the safari. After an early briefing, you trek into the dense forest with rangers and trackers. The hike varies in duration, but the reward is an unforgettable hour spent observing a gorilla family at close range.

This powerful encounter offers a rare connection with one of the world’s most endangered primates and stands as a testament to Uganda’s conservation success. After the trek, you begin your return journey to Entebbe, marking the end of the 7 Days Uganda Big Five and Primates Safari.
