Detailed Itinerary: 5 Days Gorilla Tracking and Queen Elizabeth National Park Safari Vacation

Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Your safari begins with arrival in Entebbe or Kampala, followed by a scenic drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park in western Uganda. The journey takes you through rolling countryside, tea plantations, and rural communities, offering a true sense of Uganda’s natural beauty. Upon arrival in the park, you may enjoy an evening game drive depending on timing, where the savannah plains introduce you to elephants, buffaloes, antelopes, and diverse birdlife. Dinner and overnight are spent at a lodge within or near the park, surrounded by wilderness sounds.

Day 2: Game Drive and Kazinga Channel Boat Safari

Day two is dedicated to exploring Queen Elizabeth National Park, one of Uganda’s most diverse protected areas. An early morning game drive across the Kasenyi Plains provides excellent opportunities to spot lions, leopards, elephants, Uganda kobs, and large herds of buffalo. The open savannah landscape makes wildlife viewing particularly rewarding. In the afternoon, you enjoy a relaxing boat safari along the Kazinga Channel, a natural waterway connecting Lake Edward and Lake George. This cruise brings you remarkably close to hippos, crocodiles, elephants, and countless water birds, offering one of the best photographic experiences in Uganda.

Day 3: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After breakfast, you depart Queen Elizabeth National Park and travel south to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to nearly half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas. The drive passes through the scenic Ishasha sector, famous for its tree-climbing lions, before continuing into the mist-covered highlands of Bwindi. The changing landscape from open savannah to dense rainforest is striking and memorable. Upon arrival, you check in at your lodge on the forest edge, enjoy dinner, and receive a briefing in preparation for the gorilla trekking experience.

Day 4: Gorilla Tracking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

The highlight of the safari takes place on day four with gorilla tracking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. After an early breakfast, you head to the park headquarters for registration and a detailed briefing by Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers. You then trek into the forest accompanied by experienced guides in search of a habituated gorilla family. The trek can range from a few hours to a full morning depending on the gorillas’ location, but the reward is extraordinary. Spending one hour observing mountain gorillas in their natural habitat as they feed, play, and interact is an emotional and unforgettable wildlife experience. After the trek, you return to the lodge for relaxation and a well-earned evening in the forest.

Day 5: Return to Entebbe and Departure

On the final day, you enjoy breakfast before beginning the return journey to Entebbe or Kampala. The drive offers time to reflect on the incredible wildlife encounters and scenic landscapes experienced over the past five days. Depending on your departure schedule, you may stop for lunch or brief shopping before being transferred to the airport for your onward flight, marking the end of your 5 Days Gorilla Tracking and Queen Elizabeth National Park Safari Vacation.
