Detailed Itinerary: 6 Day Uganda Primates Trekking Trip

Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park

Your primates trekking adventure begins with arrival in Entebbe or Kampala, followed by a scenic drive to Kibale Forest National Park in western Uganda. The journey takes you through rolling countryside, tea plantations, and traditional villages, offering a glimpse into rural Ugandan life. Upon arrival near the forest, you check in at your lodge and enjoy a relaxed evening surrounded by forest sounds, preparing for the chimpanzee trekking experience ahead.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking in Kibale Forest

Day two is dedicated to chimpanzee tracking in Kibale Forest National Park, home to one of the highest concentrations of chimpanzees in Africa. After breakfast, you report to the park headquarters for a briefing by experienced Uganda Wildlife Authority guides. You then enter the forest in search of chimpanzees, following their calls and movements through the canopy. Observing chimpanzees as they feed, groom, and interact in the wild is an exciting and energetic experience. Along the trek, guides also point out other primates, forest birds, and unique plant species. After the trek, you return to the lodge for rest and an overnight stay.

Day 3: Transfer from Kibale Forest to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After breakfast, you depart Kibale Forest and travel south toward Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The drive is scenic and rewarding, passing crater lakes, rolling hills, and forested landscapes. As you approach Bwindi, the terrain becomes more rugged and mist-covered, signaling your arrival in one of Africa’s most biologically diverse rainforests. You check in at your lodge near the forest edge, enjoy dinner, and receive a briefing in preparation for gorilla trekking.

Day 4: Mountain Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

The highlight of the 6 Day Uganda Primates Trekking Trip takes place on day four with mountain gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. After an early breakfast, you head to the park headquarters for registration and a detailed briefing. Accompanied by skilled rangers, you trek through dense rainforest in search of a habituated gorilla family. The trek duration varies depending on the gorillas’ location, but the reward is extraordinary. Spending one hour observing mountain gorillas at close range as they feed, rest, and interact is a deeply moving and unforgettable wildlife experience. After the trek, you return to your lodge for relaxation and an overnight stay.

Day 5: Forest Walk or Community Experience in Bwindi

Day five allows you to further explore the Bwindi region at a relaxed pace. After breakfast, you may enjoy a guided forest walk that introduces you to Bwindi’s rich biodiversity, including birds, butterflies, and smaller primates. Alternatively, a community visit offers insight into local cultures and conservation initiatives surrounding the park. This day provides time to reflect on the gorilla trekking experience while enjoying the tranquil forest environment. Dinner and overnight are spent at your lodge near Bwindi.

Day 6: Return to Entebbe and Departure

On the final day, you enjoy breakfast before beginning the return journey to Entebbe or Kampala. The scenic drive through southwestern Uganda offers final views of terraced hills, forests, and rural communities.
