Detailed Itinerary: 5 Days Gorilla and Chimps tracking Uganda

Day 1: Arrival in Entebbe and Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park

Your safari begins with arrival at Entebbe International Airport, where you are met and briefed about the upcoming primate adventure. You then embark on a scenic drive to Kibale Forest National Park in western Uganda, passing through lush farmlands, tea plantations, and rolling hills. The journey offers an excellent introduction to Uganda’s diverse landscapes. Upon arrival, you check in at your lodge near the forest, enjoy dinner, and prepare for the chimpanzee tracking experience the following day.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking in Kibale Forest National Park

Day two is dedicated to chimpanzee tracking in Kibale Forest National Park, home to one of the highest densities of chimpanzees in Africa. After an early breakfast, you report to the park headquarters for a briefing by experienced guides before entering the forest. The tracking experience takes you deep into the tropical rainforest, where you may encounter chimpanzees feeding, grooming, and interacting in their natural habitat. Along the way, guides interpret forest ecology and point out other primate species and birdlife. After the trek, you return to the lodge for relaxation and an overnight stay near the forest.

Day 3: Transfer from Kibale to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Following breakfast, you depart Kibale Forest and travel southward to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its mountain gorillas. The drive is scenic and rewarding, offering views of crater lakes, highland landscapes, and rural villages. Stops along the way allow for photography and refreshments. Arrival in Bwindi is marked by cooler forest air and dramatic terrain. You check in at your lodge on the forest edge, enjoy dinner, and receive a briefing in preparation for gorilla trekking the next day.

Day 4: Gorilla Trekking Experience in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

The highlight of the safari unfolds on day four with gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. After an early breakfast, you head to the park headquarters for registration and a briefing on trekking guidelines. Accompanied by expert rangers, you trek through dense rainforest in search of a habituated gorilla family. The duration of the trek varies depending on the gorillas’ location, but the reward is a magical hour spent observing these gentle giants at close range. Witnessing gorillas feed, rest, and interact in their natural environment is an unforgettable experience. After the trek, you return to the lodge for rest and a celebratory evening in the heart of the forest.

Day 5: Return to Entebbe and Departure

On the final day, you enjoy breakfast before beginning your return journey to Entebbe. The drive offers a final opportunity to appreciate Uganda’s scenic countryside and reflect on the remarkable primate encounters of the past days.
