Detailed Itinerary: 5‑Day Bwindi & Lake Bunyonyi (Gorilla trekking, boat cruise)

Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi

Your safari begins with arrival at Entebbe or Kampala, followed by a scenic drive to the southwestern region of Uganda, heading toward Lake Bunyonyi. The journey passes through rolling hills, rural villages, and lush tea plantations, providing a glimpse into local life. Upon arrival, you check into a lodge overlooking the lake, where you can relax and enjoy the serene surroundings. Evening meals and overnight stay allow you to unwind and prepare for the activities ahead.

Day 2: Boat Cruise and Exploration at Lake Bunyonyi

On day two, you enjoy a full morning exploring Lake Bunyonyi. A guided boat cruise takes you across the lake’s sparkling waters, visiting some of the over 29 islands scattered across the lake. The cruise offers spectacular photography opportunities, birdwatching, and insight into the local communities living along the shores. Optional activities may include swimming in safe areas, canoeing, or visiting traditional villages to learn about local culture and history. The evening is spent relaxing at your lodge, absorbing the tranquil atmosphere.

Day 3: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After breakfast, you depart Lake Bunyonyi and travel to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to the world-famous mountain gorillas. The drive is scenic, with dramatic hills, valleys, and terraced farmlands along the route. Upon arrival, you check into a lodge on the forest edge, enjoy dinner, and receive a briefing in preparation for the gorilla trekking experience the following day.

Day 4: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Day four is the highlight of the safari: mountain gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. After an early breakfast, you report to the park headquarters for registration and a briefing on trekking guidelines. Accompanied by professional rangers, you trek through dense rainforest in search of a habituated gorilla family. The trek can last several hours depending on the gorillas’ location, but the reward is extraordinary. You spend one hour observing these gentle giants at close range, witnessing their feeding, playing, and social interactions in the wild. After the trek, you return to your lodge for relaxation and dinner.

Day 5: Return to Entebbe and Departure

On the final day, after breakfast, you begin the return journey to Entebbe or Kampala. The scenic drive offers views of southwestern Uganda’s hills and rural landscapes, allowing time to reflect on the remarkable gorilla encounter and tranquil moments at Lake Bunyonyi. Depending on your flight schedule, there may be a stop for lunch or brief souvenir shopping before transfer to Entebbe International Airport for departure, marking the end of your 5-Day Bwindi & Lake Bunyonyi Safari.
