Detailed Itinerary: 10 days Uganda gorilla trip
Day 1: Transfer from Kampala or Entebbe to Murchison Falls National Park
Very early in the morning, your professional safari guide will pick you up from your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe for a briefing about the 10 days Uganda gorilla trekking trip. The journey begins northwards with a stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for an on-foot rhino tracking experience, offering the chance to see Uganda’s only wild rhinos.
After lunch, the drive continues to Murchison Falls National Park. Upon arrival, you will visit the top of the spectacular Murchison Falls, where the Nile forces its way through a narrow gorge before plunging downstream. You will then proceed to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Accommodation options include Red Chilli Rest Camp or Parkside Safari Lodge for budget travelers, Murchison River Lodge or Pakuba Safari Lodge for mid-range comfort, and Paraa Safari Lodge or Nile Safari Lodge for luxury stays.
Day 2: Game Drive and Boat Safari in Murchison Falls National Park
The day begins with an early breakfast followed by a morning game drive on the northern bank of the Nile. This drive offers excellent chances to spot African elephants, Rothschild’s giraffes, Cape buffaloes, hartebeests, hyenas, lions, and occasionally leopards as the savannah comes alive with the sunrise.
After the game drive, you return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation. In the afternoon, you embark on a boat safari along the Nile to the base of Murchison Falls. The cruise provides close views of hippos, Nile crocodiles, elephants, buffaloes, and a wide variety of bird species. After the boat safari, you return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Transfer from Murchison Falls National Park to Kibale Forest National Park
After breakfast, you check out of the lodge and begin the scenic journey southwest toward Kibale Forest National Park, often referred to as the primate capital of the world due to its high concentration of chimpanzees. The drive passes through rural villages, rolling countryside, and tea plantations around Fort Portal.
Arrival in Kibale Forest is in the late afternoon, followed by lodge check-in, dinner, and overnight stay. Accommodation options include Chimpanzee Forest Guest House for budget travelers, Kibale Forest Camp for mid-range stays, and Primate Lodge Kibale for luxury accommodation.
Day 4: Chimpanzee Trekking in Kibale Forest and Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park
The day starts very early with breakfast before heading to the park headquarters for a briefing on chimpanzee trekking. Guided by experienced rangers, you enter the forest in search of habituated chimpanzee families. Once located, you spend time observing their behavior, social interactions, and movements in the forest canopy.
After the trek, you begin the transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park, enjoying lunch en route and scenic views of crater lakes and savannah landscapes. Upon arrival, you check into your lodge for dinner and overnight stay. Accommodation options include Bush Lodge for budget travelers, Twin Lakes Safari Lodge for mid-range comfort, and Mweya Safari Lodge for luxury stays.
Day 5: Game Drive and Boat Safari on the Kazinga Channel
An early breakfast is followed by a morning game drive in Queen Elizabeth National Park, where wildlife sightings commonly include elephants, buffaloes, lions, hyenas, antelopes, and a wide range of bird species. The Kasenyi plains are particularly rewarding for predator sightings.
After lunch and relaxation at the lodge, you head out for an afternoon boat safari along the Kazinga Channel. This natural waterway connects Lake George and Lake Edward and hosts one of the highest concentrations of hippos in Africa, alongside crocodiles, elephants, and numerous water birds. Dinner and overnight are spent at the lodge.
Day 6: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park via Ishasha
After breakfast, you depart Queen Elizabeth National Park and drive south through the Ishasha sector, famous for its rare tree-climbing lions. A game drive in this area increases the chances of spotting lions resting in fig trees.
After lunch, the journey continues to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Upon arrival, you check into your lodge for dinner and overnight. Accommodation options include Broadbill Forest Camp for budget travelers and Chameleon Hill Lodge or similar for luxury stays.
Day 7: Gorilla Trekking and Batwa Cultural Experience
This day marks the highlight of the safari. After an early breakfast, you transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing on gorilla trekking regulations and group allocation. Accompanied by armed rangers and trackers, you enter the dense forest in search of mountain gorillas.
Once the gorillas are located, you are allowed to spend one unforgettable hour observing them in their natural habitat. After the trek, you return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation. In the afternoon, you may opt for a Batwa cultural experience, learning about the traditions and history of the forest’s indigenous people. Dinner and overnight are spent at the lodge.
Day 8: Transfer from Bwindi Impenetrable National Park to Lake Bunyonyi
After breakfast, you depart Bwindi and travel to Lake Bunyonyi, one of Uganda’s most scenic and tranquil lakes. Upon arrival, you enjoy lunch followed by leisure activities such as canoeing, boat rides, or a guided community walk around the lake shores.
The evening is spent relaxing at the lodge, followed by dinner and overnight accommodation overlooking the lake.
Day 9: Transfer from Lake Bunyonyi to Lake Mburo National Park
After breakfast, you continue eastward to Lake Mburo National Park, a compact park known for its acacia woodland, zebras, impalas, and elands. Arrival is in time for lunch, after which you enjoy a boat cruise on Lake Mburo and a guided community walk in nearby villages.
Accommodation options include Eagle’s Nest Camp for budget travelers, Lake Mburo Safari Lodge for mid-range stays, and Mihingo Lodge for luxury accommodation.
Day 10: Nature Walk in Lake Mburo National Park and Transfer to Kampala or Entebbe
The final day begins with an early morning guided nature walk in Lake Mburo National Park, offering close encounters with wildlife on foot. After breakfast, you depart the park and drive back to Kampala or Entebbe with a stop at the Equator for lunch and photography.
The safari concludes with a drop-off at your hotel or Entebbe International Airport.
