The dates for all gorilla permits, whether regular or four-hour treks, are set in stone and cannot be changed, unless in the event of an unforeseen circumstance. Read on to find out about the process for changing the dates of gorilla habituation permits in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

The opportunity to book a gorilla habituation experience

You must have made your original reservation with a specific tour operator, such as Katland Safaris, in order to reschedule your gorilla habituation experience permits. When you contact Katland Safaris to inquire about gorilla habituation experience permits, they will ask for the date you would like to spend four hours with mountain gorillas.

Based on this information, they will determine whether permits are available and get back to you with the details. We will record the dates on the UWA system and send you an invoice for them if we reach an agreement.

Payment may be made by credit card or bank transfer. Please provide us evidence of payment as soon as possible so that we may utilize our credit to get your gorilla habituation permit. The permits are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

The reason for this is because other persons or firms would have already obtained the licenses if we were still in the process of waiting for the funds to appear on our account, which usually takes 2-3 days. Booking and confirmation of your permit are necessary to ensure your gorilla habituation experience safari.

Guidelines for rescheduling permits for gorilla habituation

You have the option to postpone your gorilla habituation permit to a another date for several reasons. Possible causes include illness or a work-related program modification. Please send us an email explaining the reason for the date change so that we may help you in rescheduling your gorilla habituation permit.

The next step is to inform the Uganda Wildlife Authority so that they may reschedule the event. You will be able to move forward with your revised dates after they are approved and placed into the system. We will send you an email to let you know when your request to postpone the gorilla habituation permit is approved. Get in touch with us if you need any clarification on any of the above.

When may gorilla habituation sessions be rescheduled?

Rescheduling gorilla habituation experience permits is limited to one per customer. You are allowed to transfer your four-hour gorilla hike permit once by the Uganda Wildlife Authority. You will be required to return the permit if you change your mind after making the change and then decide you can’t make it. The only choice you have is to sell it again.

If for any reason you are unable to trek after purchasing your permit from Katland Safaris, we will do our best to resell it to other tour operators. If we are successful, we will reimburse you for your purchase. Nobody can promise anybody will purchase your gorilla permit.

How to reschedule gorilla habituation permits

Please note that rescheduling gorilla habituation permits must be done at least two weeks before to the intended trip date. Any services not listed above may be subject to additional fees or even rejected. Please let Katland Safaris know at least two weeks in advance of your trip if you would want to modify the date and we will help you reschedule your gorilla permit.

Also, if you reschedule your gorilla permit at least two weeks before your expedition, there will be no price. If you need to change the date of printed licenses and issued cards, you may really ask for a price. Currently, UWA charges $20 for this service. Price of Bwindi Impeachment Gorilla Habituation Permits

Foreign non-residents must pay a hefty $1500, foreign residents $1000, and East African nationals 750,000 Shillings for a gorilla habituation experience permit. The four-hour gorilla encounter, along with ranger and tourist police protection, is all part of the ticket purchase.

Conservation charge, educational presentation, and guided forest walk with rangers and gorilla habituation specialists; receipt of a certificate upon completion of the excursion. It is not possible to use this permit for transportation to or from Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, nor for lodging inside the park. The most convenient way to reach Queen Elizabeth National Park is via plane, since the flight to either Mweya or Kasese takes around 1 hour and fifteen minutes. You may reach either Mweya or Ishasha by taking a domestic flight to Kasese Airport, Mweya Airstrip, or Kihihi Airport; which one you choose will depend on the schedule and routes offered by your airline.

Getting to the park from any of the mentioned airstrips will require a short drive. From Kasese Airstrip, it’s about 1-2 hours, from Mweya Airstrip about 45 minutes (depending on the lodge you’re staying at), and from Kihihi Airport, it’s about 3-4 hours.

You may reach the park sooner if you travel to Mweya Airstrip or Kasese Airport rather than Kihihi. The starting point of your flying safari to Mweya and Ishasha will be determined by the operator you have booked with; however, all flights depart from either Entebbe International Airport or Kajjansi Airfield.

If you’re planning to fly to Mweya and Ishasha on your safari, it’s a good idea to spend the night in Entebbe or Kampala before your safari starts or ends. This will give you time to adjust to the time of your flight, make sure you don’t miss your connection, and more.

When would you recommend planning a flight safari to Mweya and Ishasha?
People often think that the driest times to visit Mweya and Ishasha are in the spring and fall since Uganda has a modified equatorial climate with two rainy seasons, and the equator runs through both the park and Uganda.

This is correct, since driving into the park to see animals becomes more difficult during rainstorms due to the pathways being too slick. December–February and June–October are the driest months to plan a flying safari to Mweya and Ishasha, followed by March–May and November, which are the wettest.

Coronavirus, an epidemic with no known treatment and an unknown origin that has spread throughout the world and killed a large number of people, has left its mark on the nation. Indeed, the COVID-19 has had a big impact on Uganda’s tourism, particularly on gorilla tracking, the country’s main attraction.

There will be new rules provided to inform you of how the situation will be handled after the current 32-day lockdown in Uganda ends on April 30th and the situation is evaluated to see whether it is safe to travel.

It is advised that tour operators, agencies, and housing facilities have a supply of recommended masks (N95) for their guests in order to increase sector-wide preparation.
It is highly suggested that all tour operators and travel firms remind their guests to bring their own masks (N95) while visiting Uganda.

Travel companies, tour organizers, and hotels all have a responsibility to inform their customers and employees on how to avoid getting Coronavirus.
Among these precautions are the following: not shaking hands or embracing one another; constantly washing hands with disinfectants; and routinely cleaning and sanitizing surfaces that are handled often, such door knobs.

It takes about four or five hours to travel from Kigali town to Nyungwe Forest National Park in the Rusizi region, which lies in the southwest of Rwanda. Among Africa’s national parks, Nyungwe Forest National Park is among the very first. There are more than 300 bird species, 16 of which are native to this park, and 75 different kinds of mammals.

The park is also home to more than 15 different primate species, the most well-known of which are chimpanzees. You must also have a chimpanzee permit valid for the day of your chimpanzee walk in Nyungwe National Park; Katland Safaris will assist you in arranging and obtaining this permission in advance from the Rwanda Development Board.

In Rwanda’s Nyungwe Forest National Park, chimpanzee tracking permits are available.
In order to go chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe Forest National Park, one needs a chimpanzee permit, which costs Rwf2, 500 for Rwandan citizens, $5 for students from the East Africa Community (EAC), $30 for students from other countries, and $90 for non-residents and $60 for residents.

Foreign citizens and 10 East African citizens (Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Kenya, Burundi, and South Sudan) are exempt from the chimpanzee permit fee. There is a park admission charge of $40 per person, per day, for both inhabitants and non-residents, and it is also required of anybody entering Nyungwe National Park.

There are a variety of lodges in and around Nyungwe National Park. Some are more affordable, like Nyungwe House or Nyungwe Nzizia Eco Lodge, which cost around $100 per person per night.

Gisakura Guest House is a more moderate option, costing around $300 per person per night. From Kigali, you may reach Nyungwe National Park by road. You can reach Nyungwe National Park via public transportation, such as buses, or by renting a car and driving yourself. The cost of the fare will vary depending on where you start your journey. For example, if you’re coming from Kigali, the bus fare will be around USD $20 per person, per seat.

The bus ride could take anywhere from four to eight hours. Some buses even pass through the park, so taking one of those would be the most convenient way to reach the park. Another alternative is to hire a private automobile, which is highly suggested for a trip to Nyungwe National Park since it is more convenient and pleasant than public transportation and would get you there faster. A day of car rental might cost about 30,000 to 40,000 RWF.

How much does it cost to trek chimpanzees in Nyungwe Forest National Park

Nyungwe National Park is a 32-kilometer journey away from Kamembe Airport, so that’s another alternative. Take a flight with RwandAir to Kamembe Airport if you want a more expedited mode of transportation. Kigali–Kamembe is one of the domestic routes that the airline serves. At least nine flights per week are operated by RwandAir between Kigali and Kamembe International Airport.

The chimpanzee trek may be the main attraction, but a nature walk around Nyungwe National Park will enable you to witness a wide variety of animals and plants, including mammals and tree species. The several guided walks inside the park cost forty dollars per person per day for those who are not inhabitants. Foreign nationals living in the country pay $30 USD daily. Every day, locals in Rwanda pay anywhere from Rwf 3,000 to Rwf 4,000 to participate in a guided nature tour. Students from Rwanda pay Rwf 1,500 per person, $15 per day, while students from other countries pay $20 per person. East Africa Community (EAC) nationals pay $5 per person, non-residents pay $30 per person, and resident foreigners pay $20 per person.

Expeditions for Birdwatchers.
One of the best places in Rwanda to see rare and endangered bird species is Nyungwe Forest National Park, which is a tropical rain forest with grasslands and plenty of marsh wetlands. More than 300 bird species call this forest home. If you’re lucky, you could see a Green-breasted Pitta, Red-chested Owlet, Scally-breasted, Pale-breasted, Brown Illadopsis, Red-caped, or Blue-shouldered Species flying about.

Birds such as the Robin-chat, Brown-chested and Fire-crested Alethe, Forest Robin, Buff-spotted, Brown-eared, and Yellow-crested Woodpecker, Red-winged Francolin, Black-billed Turaco, White-naped, and Afep Pigeon have been documented.
