What should you know regarding permission for Chimpanzee filming?

Usually referred to as the primate capital of Africa, Uganda is one of the few nations blessed with wild chimpanzees. Since most chimpanzee habitats in Uganda are under Uganda Wildlife Authority and National Forest Authority, the two organizations must be contacted if one wants to get chimpanzee filming permission.

Since they are in National parks, anybody wishing to film chimpanzees in Kibale Forest National Park and Kyambura Gorge in Queen Elizabeth must first get permission from Uganda Wildlife Authority. For any forest reserve like Karinzu or Budongo, chimpanzee filming rights should be reserved with National Forest Authority.

According to 2016-2017 tariffs, one would have to pay USd1050 as group fee to video chimpanzees in Kibale daily on top of chimpanzee permit per person. UWA levies a monitoring fee of 5% of the whole cost to cover any environmental effects.
