You must have made your original reservation with a specific tour operator, such as Katland Safaris, in order to reschedule your gorilla habituation experience permits. When you contact Katland Safaris to inquire about gorilla habituation experience permits, they will ask for the date you would like to spend four hours with mountain gorillas.

Based on this information, they will determine whether permits are available and get back to you with the details. We will record the dates on the UWA system and send you an invoice for them if we reach an agreement.

Payment may be made by credit card or bank transfer. Please provide us evidence of payment as soon as possible so that we may utilize our credit to get your gorilla habituation permit. The permits are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

The reason for this is because other persons or firms would have already obtained the licenses if we were still in the process of waiting for the funds to appear on our account, which usually takes 2-3 days. Booking and confirmation of your permit are necessary to ensure your gorilla habituation experience safari.

Guidelines for rescheduling permits for gorilla habituation

You have the option to postpone your gorilla habituation permit to a another date for several reasons. Possible causes include illness or a work-related program modification. Please send us an email explaining the reason for the date change so that we may help you in rescheduling your gorilla habituation permit.

The next step is to inform the Uganda Wildlife Authority so that they may reschedule the event. You will be able to move forward with your revised dates after they are approved and placed into the system. When may gorilla habituation sessions be rescheduled?

Rescheduling gorilla habituation experience permits is limited to one per customer. You are allowed to transfer your four-hour gorilla hike permit once by the Uganda Wildlife Authority. You will be required to return the permit if you change your mind after making the change and then decide you can’t make it. The only choice you have is to sell it again.

If for any reason you are unable to trek after purchasing your permit from Katland Safaris, we will do our best to resell it to other tour operators. If we are successful, we will reimburse you for your purchase. Nobody can promise anybody will purchase your gorilla permit.

Please note that rescheduling gorilla habituation permits must be done at least two weeks before to the intended trip date. Any services not listed above may be subject to additional fees or even rejected. Please let Katland Safaris know at least two weeks in advance of your trip if you would want to modify the date and we will help you reschedule your gorilla permit.

Foreign non-residents must pay a hefty $1500, foreign residents $1000, and East African nationals 750,000 Shillings for a gorilla habituation experience permit. The four-hour gorilla encounter, along with ranger and tourist police protection, is all part of the ticket purchase.

You may reach either Mweya or Ishasha by taking a domestic flight to Kasese Airport, Mweya Airstrip, or Kihihi Airport; which one you choose will depend on the schedule and routes offered by your airline.

Getting to the park from any of the mentioned airstrips will require a short drive. From Kasese Airstrip, it’s about 1-2 hours, from Mweya Airstrip about 45 minutes (depending on the lodge you’re staying at), and from Kihihi Airport, it’s about 3-4 hours.

You may reach the park sooner if you travel to Mweya Airstrip or Kasese Airport rather than Kihihi. The starting point of your flying safari to Mweya and Ishasha will be determined by the operator you have booked with; however, all flights depart from either Entebbe International Airport or Kajjansi Airfield.

When would you recommend planning a flight safari to Mweya and Ishasha?
People often think that the driest times to visit Mweya and Ishasha are in the spring and fall since Uganda has a modified equatorial climate with two rainy seasons, and the equator runs through both the park and Uganda.

This is correct, since driving into the park to see animals becomes more difficult during rainstorms due to the pathways being too slick. December–February and June–October are the driest months to plan a flying safari to Mweya and Ishasha, followed by March–May and November, which are the wettest.

There have been fourteen confirmed instances of the virus in the nation, prompting the government to outlaw all visits to any primate, including gorillas, golden monkeys, chimpanzees, and others, in an effort to contain the spread of the disease.

Primate DNA is quite similar to human DNA. The absolute prohibition on visiting the primates will remain in effect until April 30, 2020, in an effort to limit the issue, since these animals are susceptible to human-borne infections, including the flu-like COVID-19.

Staying home and taking precautions is our company’s top priority during this epidemic. Only by doing so can we limit the spread of the virus and put an end to this outbreak.

“What happened to my trip that I booked months ago?” is the burning question on everyone’s lips. Unfortunately, your trip won’t be able to go forward as planned, but the Uganda Wildlife Authority has made arrangements to make sure you don’t miss out.

Trips that were planned at this period. Travelers are being asked to put off their scheduled travels until the situation improves. Tour operators are being asked to hold customers’ safari credit until it’s safe to go. Even then, precautions should be taken to ensure the safety of both customers and tour providers. There will be hand sanitizer and face masks on the road and at the lodges until the epidemic is officially over.

Get your gorilla permits rescheduled. You may reschedule your tour whenever it’s clear, up to 2022, so there’s good news for everyone who booked during the epidemic or isn’t sure they’ll be able to make it before the outbreak ends.

The COVID-19 epidemic has increased the number of possible reschedules, from one to two, for the gorilla permit, which was previously only allowed once. It is highly suggested that all tour operators and travel firms remind their guests to bring their own masks (N95) while visiting Uganda.

Travel companies, tour organizers, and hotels all have a responsibility to inform their customers and employees on how to avoid getting Coronavirus.
Among these precautions are the following: not shaking hands or embracing one another; constantly washing hands with disinfectants; and routinely cleaning and sanitizing surfaces that are handled often, such door knobs.

How much does it cost to trek chimpanzees in Nyungwe Forest National Park

In Rwanda’s Nyungwe Forest National Park, chimpanzee tracking permits are available.
In order to go chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe Forest National Park, one needs a chimpanzee permit, which costs Rwf2, 500 for Rwandan citizens, $5 for students from the East Africa Community (EAC), $30 for students from other countries, and $90 for non-residents and $60 for residents.

Foreign citizens and 10 East African citizens (Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Kenya, Burundi, and South Sudan) are exempt from the chimpanzee permit fee. There is a park admission charge of $40 per person, per day, for both inhabitants and non-residents, and it is also required of anybody entering Nyungwe National Park.

Things to do and places to stay when hiking with chimpanzees in Nyungwe Forest National Park.
There are a variety of lodges in and around Nyungwe National Park. Some are more affordable, like Nyungwe House or Nyungwe Nzizia Eco Lodge, which cost around $100 per person per night.

Gisakura Guest House is a more moderate option, costing around $300 per person per night. If you’re looking for a more luxurious option, you can book a room at the Nyungwe Top View Hotel, which costs around $300 per person per night. Keep in mind that there aren’t many lodge options within the park itself; most visitors prefer to stay in Cyangugu town, which is about 45 minutes away.

A trip to Nyungwe National Park will cost you.

From Kigali, you may reach Nyungwe National Park by road. You can reach Nyungwe National Park via public transportation, such as buses, or by renting a car and driving yourself. The cost of the fare will vary depending on where you start your journey. For example, if you’re coming from Kigali, the bus fare will be around USD $20 per person, per seat.

The bus ride could take anywhere from four to eight hours. Some buses even pass through the park, so taking one of those would be the most convenient way to reach the park. Another alternative is to hire a private automobile, which is highly suggested for a trip to Nyungwe National Park since it is more convenient and pleasant than public transportation and would get you there faster. A day of car rental might cost about 30,000 to 40,000 RWF.

Nyungwe National Park is a 32-kilometer journey away from Kamembe Airport, so that’s another alternative. Take a flight with RwandAir to Kamembe Airport if you want a more expedited mode of transportation. Kigali–Kamembe is one of the domestic routes that the airline serves. At least nine flights per week are operated by RwandAir between Kigali and Kamembe International Airport.

Expeditions for Birdwatchers.
One of the best places in Rwanda to see rare and endangered bird species is Nyungwe Forest National Park, which is a tropical rain forest with grasslands and plenty of marsh wetlands. More than 300 bird species call this forest home. If you’re lucky, you could see a Green-breasted Pitta, Red-chested Owlet, Scally-breasted, Pale-breasted, Brown Illadopsis, Red-caped, or Blue-shouldered Species flying about.

Birds such as the Robin-chat, Brown-chested and Fire-crested Alethe, Forest Robin, Buff-spotted, Brown-eared, and Yellow-crested Woodpecker, Red-winged Francolin, Black-billed Turaco, White-naped, and Afep Pigeon have been documented.
